In fact, Disney has announced that it has a huge 26. 5 million paying subscribers, which is even more than the 25 million predicted by Wall Street Analysts. In addition to the Disney Plus streaming service for $6. 99, you can also purchase a bundle that includes ESPN+ and Hulu for $12. 99. Disney Plus will compete with Netflix, to be sure, but it’ll also compete with other services, like Apple TV+, HBO Now, Amazon Prime Video and so on, with live sports and TV that go beyond classic Disney titles. But is it worth signing up for yet another video streaming service? Here’s everything you need to know about Disney Plus. What will Disney Plus include? Disney+ Content Disney Perhaps the most important thing to consider about Disney Plus is exactly what kind of content it includes. Thankfully for the sake of the service’s library, Disney owns a ton of content, and much of that is available to Disney Plus right now. As you would expect, you get plenty of classic Disney content, like “Pinocchio” and “The Lion King. ” You’ll also get newer content from the Disney Channel, like “Girl Meets World” and “Lizzie McGuire” — so if you’re a ‘90s kid, prepare to be able to relive your childhood. Disney is investing in expanding that content too. The company has already announced a revival of “Lizzie McGuire” featuring much of the original cast, and more revivals are likely. Disney, however, also owns plenty of other properties. One of the company’s most-loved properties is Pixar, and you’ll get plenty of Pixel content on the platform, including “Cars, ” “Toy Story” and “Finding Nemo. ” Next up is a big one: Marvel. Unfortunately for Marvel fans, Disney Plus won’t offer all the Marvel movies, at least not right away. It will, however, offer a solid selection of them, including “Ant-Man, ” “Avengers: Endgame” and “Captain Marvel. ” Perhaps even more important is the fact that the service will be home to a slew of original Marvel TV shows, though they won’t be available at launch. The first will be “Falcon and the Winter Soldier, ” which will debut in August 2020, followed by “WandaVision” in December. Another monster property owned by Disney is Star Wars, and all Star Wars movies are available on the service right now. Like Marvel, Disney is also releasing original Star Wars content to Disney Plus, starting with “The Mandalorian. ” Disney has already confirmed that Season 2 of “The Mandalorian” is in the works, as well as other shows like one based on Obi-Wan Kenobi. Other content is available too. Disney owns National Geographic and considering the fact that it recently acquired Fox, shows like “The Simpsons” are also available on the service. In total, there are 600 movies and TV shows available on Disney Plus, and that number is only like to grow as time goes on and Disney makes more content. How much does Disney Plus cost? Convinced by the massive library of content? In that case, you’re probably wondering how much it’ll cost, and you might be pleasantly surprised. While Netflix ranges from $8. 99 to $15. 99 per month, Disney Plus comes at only $6. 99 per month. You can even save some cash by paying for a year upfront, at $69. 99. There’s only one tier too, so you’ll still get 4K streaming and multiple streams at that entry-level price. Safe to say, Disney Plus is one of the least expensive streaming services out there, and while it could become more expensive down the line, at least for now that helps make the service super accessible. Where can I watch Disney Plus? Disney+ Interface Like other streaming services, you’ll be able to watch Disney Plus pretty much everywhere. Let’s start with TV. Disney Plus is compatible with Roku, Apple TV, Google Chromecast, Amazon Fire TV, Android TV, PlayStation 4 and Xbox. You’ll be able to enjoy Disney Plus content on the go, too. The service supports but Android and iOS, so you can watch from your iPhone, iPad, Android phone and so on. What features does Disney Plus offer? If you want to enjoy 4K content on Netflix, you have to pay for the $15. 99 Premium tier, but that isn’t the case for Disney Plus. The low price of $6. 99 per month includes 4K support, so you’ll be able to watch in stunning detail at no extra cost. You can also bundle Disney Plus with Hulu and ESPN Plus, all for $12. That’s still less than the price of Netflix Premium. The bundle is available straight from the Disney Plus website. Disney Plus is also great for offline viewing. You can download unlimited content to your mobile device, so the only constraint to how much you can download is how much space your phone or tablet has. Disney Plus is available in a few different languages — English, Spanish, French and Dutch — at launch, including both for the user interface, and subtitles and voice-overs. More languages are likely to be added in the future. Anything else I should know? Disney Plus has already disrupted the streaming world, and that’s only likely to continue. Why? Well, to date, a lot of Disney content has been available on Netflix, and much of that content will be removed from Netflix over the next few years. Titles may take some time to be removed, thanks to the fact that Disney and Netflix have contracts for specific titles. Some titles might even return to Netflix thanks to those complicated contracts, with some movies set to return to the service starting in 2026. This affects movies added to Netflix between January 2016 and December 2018, so that includes a slew of Marvel content and Star Wars content. By then, however, the catalog of Disney Plus titles will likely be absolutely massive, so unless you’re doing a Marvel or Star Wars marathon, you may not miss that content at all.
